At SAIBPP, we believe that practitioners in the sector grow best through community and mentorship. Keeping up with the latest trends locally and globally in the property sector, networking with important stakeholders and developing one’s competencies is key to success in the sector. The newly launched Mentorship Programme, a facet of our soon to be launched Learning and Growth Hub, is just opportunity for anyone looking to be coached by leaders in the industry.
Beyond building academic and technical competencies we recognise that we need to add different dimensions to professional development through Mentorship and even Coaching. These include more focus on aspects such as personal and leadership development as well as building capacity in line with the technological advancements so that we are better placed to contend with the challenges of the world we live in today and are better prepared to respond to tomorrow’s challenges. The Mentorship Program will require participants to take ownership of their professional journey and personal development rather than focussing solely on the external factors and environment. This means that Mentees are required to be actively engaged in their growth by assessing their own professional and personal development journey, with the support of the Mentors and SAIBPP.

Policy & Advocacy Corner: Land Court Act Public Comments
SAIBPP makes a concerted effort to keep up with new bills and draft legislation that will have an impact on property and infrastructure by key departments. Most recently, the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development has invited civil society and interested parties to submit comments on the draft regulations under the Land Court Act, 2023 (Act No.6 of 2023).
Land reform is one of SAIBPP’s key pillars as it is almost impossible to talk about transformation in the property sector without delving into the land question. Land restitution and redistribution have been subject to many administrative issues, conflicts between restoring injustices of the past with commercial interests and difficulty in changing the landscape of ownership.
The Land Court Act has been drafted for the following purposes:
- To provide for the establishment of a Land Court and appeals against decisions of the Land Court
- To make provision for the administration and judicial functions of the Land Court
- To provide for the jurisdiction of the Land Court and Magistrates’ Courts for certain land related matters
- To provide for mediation procedures
- To amend certain laws relating to the adjudication of land matters by other courts; To provide for matters connected therewith.
